PC Gamer has released a very interesting interview of Mike O'Brien president of Arena Net concerning microtransactions in Guild Wars 2. Actual interview can be found here
In his own words :
“Punch number two is that there’s now an equivalence between time and money. If I’m a player who can play the game a lot and there’s something I want, I don’t need to pay for it. If I’m a player who can’t play the game a lot, but I want things in the game also, I can spend money on microtransactions.”
Now this can be interpreted in 2 ways.
Either we can play (grind) to win or we can pay to win, or that everyone has the opportunity to get that epic cloak ( epic in a cosmetic way) either by time or money.
The fact remains that until we come to see what will be actual purchasable through microtransaction and how vital they would be to the game experience there is no way to conclude if the path that Arena Net has chosen is the right one ....
